Had the occasion to visit Nodding Head Brewery at 1516 Sansom and McGillin's Olde Ale House last Friday while in town. Both were fine establishments within to imbibe. Started at NH. Ordered up the Kung Fu Grip, Grog, Grog D'Oer, and Mo-Tay. George's Mistake was coming up but not on tap yet. Kung Fu and D'Oer were the faves. Gordon, the brewer, does a lot with a small system. He was nice enough to give me a little tour. Food was OK. Got the greasy sampler and some bruschetta. The latter was better than the former, but both were good. Prices were reasonable.
McGillin's is a little out of the way down an alley. Nice atmosphere, not dissimilar to the 'Ville. Good draft selection, including three "house" brews that are brewed by Stout's. This being their 150th anniversary year, I had to try the 1860 IPA. It was fair. Not the best IPA I've ever had. Only slightly hoppy, and actually a little thin on the body. Lots of history in that building and worth a visit.
