Spreading the Joys of Homebrewing Throughout Philadelphia and Its Suburbs

I'm sure many of you have heard about the raid on Resurrection Ale House, Local 44, and Memphis Taproom late last week. Here is some updated info from philly.com.

"Citizen complaint". Hmmm . . .

And this part:

"Among the brands that the State Police reportedly sought during its raid was Pliny the Younger (emphasis added), recently named the No. 1 beer in the world by Beer Advocate, a popular online beer-rating site. The ale is made once a year by Russian River Brewing, in California."

I never realized how difficult brewing and selling beer in PA can be, on so many levels. Let's hope for all involved this situation has a happy ending.

It's just another example of misused money and over zealous, corrupt politicians that look for an easy wat to make money for the city/state. they'll probably fine the bar owners' pants off. Instead of, I don't know, actually finding ways to balance the budget or something like that.

Just read the article and it makes you sick to think that this is how our tax money is spent. Our corrupt politicians want to tax everything, so on top of all the taxes paid on beer they even charge a $75 tax to register a beer so you are allowed to sell it in the state of PA. Don't the bar ownere in this state have enough legislative bull crap to put up with and then they have to deal with this. Go figure. Reminds me of the tax I have to pay to have a sigh on my shop. It's called a "Sign Inspection Fee" (note: they don't call it a tax). It's $50 for each sign you see. So next time you ride down a busy road, count the signs, (please not while your texting and driving at the same time), and you'll see just how much your township collects. I called them up to see when they would be inspecting my sign and they said that they don't inspect it. I wonder where all that money goes?

The sad thing is that even when the beer is on the list the PLCB isn't smart enough to know which beer they're looking at, so they take them indiscriminately? Pathetic. It almost makes me want to go out and grab a pint of some obscure brew right now. Maybe I'll head to Monk's.

And adding insult to injury...

I went to McGillins to the philly opening of Flying Fish Exit 16. The event was cancelled due to fear of the PLCB stopping in. It's not on the official list yet.. Well, the least I can do is have a pint of something else.

Lew tends to tell it like it is, and that's what I like about him.
and Matt, that sounds like a great way to make a bad situation better!

Read Don Russell's fine commentary at philly.com. Sorry. Link won't stick.

And now they've raided their first distributor.. I think the most this will accomplish is hurting the small businessman. What's the next step, they raid bars in Central PA and pull Yuengling?
