Throw one of those packs in. See what happens. It should have fermented out by now, so the new yeast should take off and help get the FG lower. A Flavor neutral yeast ferments pretty clean. Some are Wyeast 1056 American Ale, White Labs 001 Cal Ale,…

Also, from "Brew Like a Monk", the levels of carbonation various breweries aim for.. Orval - 10 grams per liter / 5 volumes Rochefort - 7 grams per liter / 3.5 volumes Westmalle - 6 to 8 grams per liter / 3 - 4 volumes Leffe - 6.3 grams per liter /…

I agree, that is the easiest way to do it. I wanted something a little more elegant and portable. With this setup, I can easily pick the keg up and move it anywhere. The airlock can be swiveled directly above the lid so it is out of the way. And mos…

Jeff, Some info that may or may not be of use.. I've checked some of the books I have and found a note in "Designing Great Beers" that most of Candi Sugar's fermentables come from Sucrose. So perhaps you could use the same amount (by weight?) that…

Hey Jeff, this last batch for the RIS barrel project I did 30 gallons, and split among 8 corny kegs, I used just the gas ball lock and tubing running from each of the 8 kegs to a bucket of sanitizer. Sounded pretty good when all 8 of them were bubbl…

I just updated the article. Missed a photo and the photos didn't line up. They do now.

I'm guessing about 2 pints.

Great write-up, Jeff. I've been wanting to do this for my secondaries. Just need more kegs... With 1 1/2" of the dip tube cut off, how much beer to you think is left behind?

Building an Airlock to Ferment in a Corny Keg

I was lucky enough to take part in a small group that obtained a Bourbon Barrel for the use of aging beer. For our first batch, we brewed an Abbey Dubbel and I contributed 10 gallons to fill the 55 Gallon Barrel. The beer aged in the barrel for about 4 months until we pulled the Dubbel and replaced it with a Russian Imperial Stout. This left me with 2 5gallon corny kegs full of Abbey Dubbel.

Since I had 2 kegs of the same beer, I wanted to do something different in one of them. I decid… Continue

Gday Jeff, from way off South Australia!! I am from a family of old home brewers and have recently (in the past 4 months) started with Aussie beer kits here and experimenting. It would be great to learn more, but - as life is busy - I will paddle my way along and learn as I go. 38 years young and much to learn... I really enjoy all aspects of it. We have some great Aussie brewers here and a load of micro's. If you look up the Barossa Valley (wine and beer district..LOL) that is just up the road from where we are!! Cheers mate, Brent

For the ALEiens competition, I might be able to put together a beer prize pack. I think i have 2 of weyerbacher beers, insanity & fireside ale. Those I believe are in a 6pk and a 4 pk. Let me check. I could maybe put those together with a growler or two from the brewery with a logo'd pint glass?! Any thoughts or is there enough prizes to go around?
