How I Am Storing Bulk Grains

Earlier this month, I got to take part in a bulk grain buy on Homebrew Talk. I picked up two 55lb sacks of 2-row base malt. Now that I got these grains, I was trying to figure out how to store them. I think I would be ok just leaving them in the bags until used, but I think the bags are vulnerable. I am keeping them down in my basement. My basement is not finished and could get wet if we had wicked rainstorms.…

State liquor sell-off to be ‘top priority’

State Liquor Sell-Off To Be ‘Top Priority’

Gov.-elect Tom Corbett hasn’t taken over the governor’s mansion yet, but he already has a battle on his hands as he tries to privatize the state’s liquor sales — something two of his predecessors tried but failed to do.

Already in favor of the move, Corbett now says there now is the political will to sell off the state’s…

Building an Airlock to Ferment in a Corny Keg

I was lucky enough to take part in a small group that obtained a Bourbon Barrel for the use of aging beer. For our first batch, we brewed an Abbey Dubbel and I contributed 10 gallons to fill the 55 Gallon Barrel. The beer aged in the barrel for about 4 months until we pulled the Dubbel and replaced it with a Russian Imperial Stout. This left me with 2 5gallon corny kegs full of Abbey Dubbel.

Since I had 2 kegs of the same beer, I wanted to do something different in one of them. I… Continue

February Meeting - It's all about the Hops!

Hop Discussion

The February meeting’s topic will be all about HOPS. For anyone who knows me, this is one of my favorite subjects. I will be doing a presentation outlining hop varietals and characteristics, hop chemistry, different ways to use hops, and growing your own hops. I will also be serving different varieties of hop teas to evaluate hop aromas/tastes and giving away a couple ounces of hops from my private hop collection.

Review the Brew

Hi Jeff,

It's Jeff, I guess nothing special is happening Tuesday!?  Oh well, I guess we'll be tasting each others beer...what a shame.  Sorry I can't think of anything.

Thank you! I'm excited to be part of the club. This is a nice site you put together. I came across it when looking for some information about building a mash tun. Do you happen to know anybody that could point me in the right direction? I'm interested in building one from an old half keg. I also need a larger brew pot and hot liquor tank so I was thinking of building a three keg system. A point in the right direction would be much appreciated. Cheers!
