Tuesday June 30th is the date for our first internal competition which I am entitling War of the Weizens. These should be out Big Brew day Hefeweizens that we brewed back in the beginning of May.
To enter your beers, you will need to bring 2 bottles. Since this is going to be small and we don’t have a any other styles, entry is easy. Just write your name on a two pieces of paper and attach it to the bottles with a rubber band. That’s it. We will do the rest.
We have some prizes to give away too, courtesy of Bob Wright!
1st Place - $50 Gift Cert to Wine Barley and Hops
2nd Place - $25 Gift Cert to Either Wine Barely and Hops or The Hulmeville Inn.
3rd Place - $25 Gift Cert to whichever 2nd place winner didn’t pick. (WBH or Hulmeville)
Be sure to bring extra bottles of your Hefeweizen so the rest of the group can taste your brew. It will be interesting to taste all the differences between beers created with identical recipes.
On top of all this, Lee Marren from Stone Brewing will be with us to talk about the delicious beers from Stone!
Hey, this is probably a dumb question. Do you want bottle caps blacked out if they have writing on them? I've got those "Brewer's Best" caps on mine. I'm guessing it's not a big deal, but I thought I'd ask anyway, just to play it safe.
Last night was an awesome time. We had a great turn out (I am guessing almost 55 or people) and pretty much everything ran smoothly. I’d like to thank everyone that came out, but I would especially like to thank the people who helped out.
Jeff Lavin – Thanks a million for letting the ALEiens invade your bar and being so generous with both the 3L Double Bastard and Gifts for the competition. (more on that to come).
Steve Hawk – Without Steve, this competition wouldn’t have happened. He rounded up and stewarded for the judges and got all the entries in order.
Bob Wright, Jeff Lavin, Paul Romanowsky, and Dave Covey – They hooked us up with the great prizes we had to offer. Thanks Guys.
The Judges – Carl , Josh, Jeff, Sam, Paul, and Kevin for taking time out of your busy days to drink, I mean Judge our beers.
Eivind Sandstrand – Eivind first contacted Stone Brewing to get them to come to our meeting.
Lee Marren – Lee educated us on Stone Brewing and hooked us up with some Stone Gear.
Enough with the Grammy acceptance speech and now on to the winners of the War of the Weizens!
We had 9 total entries into the competition, but of course only 3 could win ribbons.
1st Place – Dan Noon
Dan won $50 certificate to Wine Barley and Hops, a case of 1 liter flip top bottles, and a hug from Martin (redeemable any time)
2nd Place – Dave Covey
Dave won a $25 certificate to Wine Barley and Hops and $25 certificate to the Hulmeville Inn
3rd Place – Bill Schools and Steve Hulse
Bill and Steve won $25 gift certificate to the Hulmeville Inn.
Congrats to everyone. Next month we will have a brewer from Yards Brewing joining us. This summer is lining up to be a great summer for the ALEiens!
