ALEiens Homebrew Club

Spreading the Joys of Home Brewing Throughout Philadelphia and the Universe!

I brought some Onyx Stout from Golden Avalanche Brewing Co. a month or two ago to the meeting, and it seemed to be a hit. Here is a recipe that will get you pretty close to that:

Batch Size before boil - 7gal
Batch Size after boil - 5.5gal

Grain Bill
11lbs -    Pilsner Malt
1.75lbs - CaraMunich Malt
1.75lbs - Munich Malt
.5lb  -     Chocolate Malt
.25lb  -   Carafa II Malt

Mash Schedule
40min @ 145F
20min @ 158F

Hops
1.5oz Cascade 7.5%  (60 min) 44 IBU
1oz Cascade 7.5% (0min) 0 IBU

Yeast/Fermentation
WLP005 British Ale
Ferment @ 66F

What, no OG?
I've actually never made this recipe. The grain bill and hops were based on malt percentages and IBUs off the production recipe......but the commercial version turns out to be 1.062-65. I think this recipe might be a touch stronger than that.
nice. What kind of efficiency does the Pub system get. I am just wondering compared to a homebrew set up.
