Does anyone have any experience with using something similar to this?

Interesting! Did you find a place where you can buy something like this?
I wish! But I think I will be forced to build my own, unless I can find someone with the proper skills.
I used to use a bucket heater when I mashed in a cooler. I would set a timer to come on at like 5AM to heat my strike water. In 90 minutes or so 7 gallons of water would be up to 165 - 170.

Not as fun (or dangerous) as building your own but looks like they go for about $35. and are UL Listed.

Thanks Scott - that's the thing I was looking for, and the use I had in mind.

I don't like leaving a propane burner unattended while it's heating up the strike water, but this should fit the bill quite nicely, even with 13-14 gallons of water (and save propane for when I want to have a nice, rolling boil)
I wonder how well three of these would work together..................
The bucket heater is a really good idea.
Yes! Not only would they need to be on dedicated circuits but the circuits would need to be rated at 20 Amps (or more). The 2000W heating elements will draw about 17 Amps each (Amps = Watts / Volts) and would trip a 15 Amp breaker. The 1000W bucket heater that I use draws about 8 or 9 Amps (of course, it takes longer to heat the water).
