Come Brew for National Homebrew Day and CELEBRATE the ALEien's 5th Anniversary!!
Saturday, May 4, 2013: Mash in time is 9am for all-grain brewers.
Location: The Hulmeville Inn
McKenzie Brew House will be providing us with two yeast strains for your brew –
The La Chouffe yeast is a Belgian strain similar to a WLP550. It’s a versatile yeast that will be great in a Belgian Blond, Belgian Pale Ale, Dubbel , Saison, or a Belgian IPA.
Their Saison yeast will also be available which is great for, well, a saison in addition to a plethora (El Guapo: “I would just like to know if you know what it means to have a plethora”) of styles.
The American Homebrewers Association has suggested Belgian Blond Ale recipe on their website. Here is the link to the AHA for their suggested recipes.
You are not limited to the styles mentioned above. Just pick a yeast and brew a beer that shows off your creativity and brewing skills!
Part of the fun of the Big Brew Day is the competition. We are brewing on 5/4 and the beers will be collected at our June meeting on 6/25. You brews will be sent to the team at McKenzie Brew House for judging. The winner will be announced at the July meeting.
If you are not brewing that day, you are still welcome to come get some free yeast and brew at your convenience and enter your beer in the competition. Please bring a mason jar or 12 oz bottle (and a way to cap it) and take home some McKenzie yeast. You can still brew at home and enter your beer in the competition. (If you don't want to use McKenzie's yeast, no problem! You just won't able to enter your beer in our BBD Competition.)
We have a sign up list below. If anyone cannot make it or decides not to brew, please let us know so others can brew.
Again, everyone is invited to come hang out, eat, observe, and drink that day! Food is always a welcomed addition!!! hint, hint, wink, wink...
Here is the list for people brewing AT The Hulmeville. Water and Electric is available. Please only sign up if you are serious about brewing AT The Hulmeville. Again, the yeast is available to you even if you do not brew at The 'ville.
